Kelly Kay Mullen Desierto, L.Ac holds a Masters of Traditional Chinese Medicine and is a licensed acupuncturist who offers patients a variety of modalities to help them achieve their best state of health. She graduated from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine at the top of her class, a highly rigorous school of acupuncture that provided four years of scholastic training and over a year of clinical internship before graduation. Kelly is extensively trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), so she is skilled in acupuncture, moxibustion, herbal formulas, cupping, and Tui Na (manual stimulation of acupoints and channels). In addition, she is trained in Japanese acupuncture (also known as Meridian Therapy), which utilizes an extremely gentle, shallow insertion style that is wonderful for patients who are needle sensitive or find traditional Chinese style acupuncture too aggressive.
Kelly Kay Mullen Desierto's undergraduate major of Medical Microbiology and Immunology helps her to seamlessly integrate Chinese Medicine with western allopathic medicine. Kelly has knowledge of vitamins and supplements and how they work in a physiological way in your body. She understands how disease progression happens in a western medicine framework, and she can incorporate that into her Chinese Medicine diagnosis and treatments.
Kelly Kay Mullen Desierto is also an adept energy worker. She has completed numerous attunements that allow her to channel healing energies through her hands. She is a Reiki level 2 practitioner which allows her to use Reiki as a hands-on added benefit to the acupuncture, or send Reiki as distance healing. She also completed training in the New Paradigm Multi-dimensional Transformation energy school as a Basic Master. This give Kelly Kay the ability to channel very high vibrational healing energy though her hands, which may be utilized as a stand alone therapy or in conjunction with her acupuncture. In addition, she has completed training in the Akashic Records, which allows her to access information to answer questions about our karmic path. This energy training helped her with learning Esoteric Acupuncture, which focuses on raising our vibrations, clearing and aligning our chakras, and expanding our consciousness. She is one of the few practitioners in Chicago who has completed the Advanced Esoteric Acupuncture training. See our 'Services' section of our website to learn more about energy work, Akashic records, or Esoteric acupuncture.
Kelly Kay enjoys treating all health imbalances, and specializes in emotional disorders such as anxiety and depression, patients who feel chronically tired or stressed (adrenal fatigue), fertility, gynecological disorders, pregnancy related issues, and digestive disorders (including weight management). After the birth of her children she developed an interest in pediatric TCM treatments (using acupressure or very brief and shallow needle insertion). Kelly Kay has treated patients as young as seven with acupuncture, and energy work on children as young as babies!
In her spare time, Kelly Kay enjoys homeschooling her two children, dancing through her Nia classes, exploring her spiritual path and writing.
Kelly Kay is a perfect choice for someone looking for intelligence and caring in their healthcare provider. She will work with patients one-on-one to discuss all aspects of their lifestyle and how it may be affecting their health, and offer recommendations on how they can empower themselves by taking control of their own wellness. She genuinely loves helping people improve their health and her passion for her career is evident in her success rate with her patients.
